"I don't want to go home and be by myself until my mom gets home from work. I like coming to the Y and have friends around and I really like the Y staff." The Marietta Family YMCA's Teen After School Program addresses two critical concerns: childhood obesity and positive afterschool alternatives for teens. Overweight children have increased incidence of physical conditions including hypertension, coronary artery disease, and type 2 diabetes. Lack of positive alternatives for youth and teens increase problems such as: teen pregnancy, alcohol & drug abuse, violence, vandalism, and school dropout. "I want to work out during the offseason of football, and I can go to the fitness center afterschool with the supervised staff."
