VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES with unspecified dates
COMMUNITY BABY SHOWER- As part of the United Way Community Baby Shower, we need volunteers from 3-5pm to go with staff members to the Marietta Wal-Mart to stand outside the doors and ask customers to consider buying a baby item while shopping and returning it to an assigned cart that has been designated for those items. Transportation will be provided upon request.
Meet at the Dyson Baudo Rec Center on the Marietta College campus at 9:10am. From there, you will go with a group of other volunteers to one of the four stores from 9:30am-12:30pm. United Way of Washington County board members go with volunteer Marietta College students to four local stores to request the customers consider buying a baby item while they are shopping and drop it off in a speicified attended shopping cart when they leave the store. After these items are returned to the United Way office, they are sorted in categories like diapers (by size), cltohes (by size), baby food (by type), wipes, etc. After consulting with each of the thirteen county food pantries and a few of the United Way agencies (EVE, Inc., Salvation Army, MOVFH) about their specific needs, the United Way sees that each place gets what they need, or may need in the future.
Driven to Give- Need an unlimited number of volunteers at least 18 years old and up with a valid driver's license who are willing to go to Family Ford Lincoln in Marietta to complete a pre-survey before driving a car, test drive a Lincoln, and then take a post survey after driving a car. The United Way of Washington County will receive $20 for each person who completes the surveys and test drives a Lincoln. Then, if you are willing, you may drive a Lincoln Navigator and complete the surveys so that we can earn another $20. Each volunteer will be able to raise $40 for the United Way. If transportation is needed, we may schedule pick-ups in tiown and shuttle people back and forth from Family Ford Lincoln (out past Wal-Mart).
Serve on the United Way Board Meetings are at 7:30am every third Tuesday at the United Way office at 307 Putnam St. Duties would be to visit businesses to acquire pledges during the campaign, to serve on at least one committee, and to attend approximately 4 events throughout the year (i.e., United Way Bowl, Community Baby Shower, Driven to Give, Men Cook, Labor Day Parade, etc.).
Assistance with mailings- Need 2-3 people who are willing to come to the United Way office (307 Putnam St.), usually from 10-12, to stuff envelopes for mailings.
